What is a Swirl Engagement Ring And How Does It Look Like?

Swirl engagement rings are sometimes also described as spiral or twirl style ring designs. Typically, a swirl design ring features a prong setting where the metal band is crafted in a way as to give a half circular “swirl” effect around the center gem.

This gives it a spiral-like appearance as the shank wraps itself around the diamond in a protective embrace. As far as styling preferences go, the swirl style diamond ring offers plenty of creative designs for you to choose from depending on your budget.

Swirly Diamond Ring Design Ideas And Where to Shop For Them

Most jewelers offer a range of swirl diamond ring settings and even customized options for people who are looking for specific design elements. Now, I know some of you may assume that twirl engagement rings are expensive because of the unique appearances they have but that isn’t true.

It is possible to find something that is relatively simple for less than $1,000 and if you wanted to get something fancy, there are also options that go above the $4,000 range. The point I want to make here is that the twirl diamond rings are designs that can be within reach for anyone!

Practical Buying Tips For Swirl Engagement Rings

A diamond ring purchase can be essentially broken down into 2 components: the center stone and the ring setting. If you want a stunning ring that makes people go “Wow!”, you will need to get both of these aspects correct.

Obviously, you want to buy a diamond that is full of sparkle and life instead of a dull looking one. I’ve created a step by step guide to help you choose a high performance diamond based on tangible data. So, make sure you read the section carefully before you shop for any diamond.

What I want to do here is to cover the things you should look out for when choosing a swirl setting and give you practical tips that you should be aware of. First of all, the most important thing that I look out for when examining a setting is its craftsmanship standards.

reviewing ring setting workmanship

A well made setting will look pleasant to the eyes instead of “looking awkward” and it affects the ring’s appearance. I generally pay attention to the symmetry of the ring shanks and how consistent the ring is made.

Does any part of the ring look lop-sided at places that shouldn’t be? Is the prong placement properly aligned? Are the melees properly matched and aligned in a pave style design? Is the finishing of the ring done sloppily?

You can find out more details and view photographs of a ring review I previously performed.

With swirl engagement rings, you will also need to pay attention to finding a matching band that fits the stack perfectly when worn. The problem with alternative ring designs like these is that the engagement ring and wedding band can look awkward and cause discomfort if they don’t conform to each other’s shape.

If you intend to wear your engagement ring together with a wedding band, I would recommend looking for swirl wedding ring sets offered by the same vendor for pairing purposes. This would eliminate issues with matching styles and help you find a set of rings for comfortable, long-term wear.

The price of a swirl diamond ring would depend on many factors and the main one being the cost of the center stone. If we are just talking about the setting alone, a swirl style ring does not have to be expensive. Although like anything else and given enough detail and extravagance, you could end up pay quite a bit more for something more intricate.

For a plain vanilla swirl design engagement rings, anywhere from $500 to $1000 for the setting alone would be typical prices for most settings in the market if they are made of white gold. For platinum settings, it would cost more because of the metal price.
