A Buyer’s Review: Fancy Intense Yellow Diamond Ring

Ever since I developed a passion for the jewelry industry, colored diamonds have always intrigued me. Known for their fascinating hues, rare fancy color diamonds have also been in the headlines for their record breaking auctions.

And I’m not alone.

Over the years of managing Beyond4cs.com, I noticed a growing interest on colored diamonds (specifically, yellow diamonds). Most of the questions received are usually related to making stone selections and who’s a reliable vendor they can trust when shopping for natural yellow diamond rings.

Recently, I pulled the trigger on a fancy intense yellow cushion cut diamond ring from Leibish.com. This purchase was meant as an anniversary gift for my wife and being the blogger I am, this was a fantastic opportunity to document the process for you guys.

In today’s post, we are going to unbox the Fedex package that was delivered by Leibish and show you what you can expect to receive when making a purchase from them.

Overview of the Cushion Cut Yellow Diamond Ring

Leibish is a world renowned vendor who specializes in fancy color diamonds. And in the niche market of colored diamonds, you definitely want to work with someone who’s trustworthy and reliable.

And so, I started my search at Leibish.com in mid-June 2016. Later in the month, I got in touch with their customer support to confirm my order on the following items.

The checkout process was pretty straightforward and Leibish.com’s service staff was there to guide me through the transaction. Once payment was made, Leibish commenced work to fabricate the order. It took roughly 22 days to complete the ring and another 2 days for FedEx to deliver it.

Very informative post. I’m looking for a pink diamond and prices are insanely high everywhere I look. Even a small pink diamond costs upwards of $10,000 at Leibish. Do you have any other recommendations where I can reliably buy a pink diamond halo ring?

If you are looking for natural pink diamonds of the best quality, Leibish.com (started by Leibish Polnauer) has beautiful selections of different color saturations and intensities. Some of their inventory also includes the rare and elusive Argyle Pinks which can only be won at a yearly tender by invited businesses. There’s a reason why these diamonds are expensive. Basically, you get what you pay when it comes to pink diamonds. If you can’t afford it, consider buying a lab created fancy color diamond instead.

Dear Paul, Thank you for the detailed and very interesting article on helping your friend buy an engagement ring from Cartier. It spurred me into fishing out the details of my own solitaire diamond ring which my husband bought for me many moons ago. It was not purchased from Cartier but from Al Futtaim here in the United Arab Emirates. I wonder if you would be so kind as to let me know of the pros and cons of my particular diamond if I sent you a photograph of the details by e-mail? I am not too sure of all the %ages and girth measurements …. too fine, too thick etc.

I am nearing my 60th decade and it crossed my mind of how I might improve things should I ever get the chance to buy another diamond!

I look forward to hearing from you but will understand if you are not able to help out.
    Thank you.
    Kind regards

    Carolyn Johnson

You could send the details but there’s only so much I can do to offer an accurate analysis. It’s like asking me to perform a health diagnostic remotely without seeing the patient in person.

Hi Paul, i’m new in coloured diamond. What do you think of this fancy yellow diamond from Rox ? Many Thanks in advance for your expert opinion. There is a yellow diamonds rings sale ongoing here and there is no GIA certificate I believe. https://www.rox.co.uk/yellow-oval-diamond-halo-ring-0-78cts-62191

Well, then rest assured you are in for a giant rip off and misrepresentation of the diamond’s qualities if there’s no GIA reports. There isn’t even a proper photograph of a ring and a stock image is used instead. So, that’s a double red flag for you. There’s a reason for fancy color diamonds to be graded by GIA. And that’s to ensure there isn’t any misrepresentation of what is being sold to you.

That’s a gorgeously done french V cut pavé setting. I’m an artisanal goldsmith and stonesetter and that’s my favourite type of pavé. It takes great skill to perform it correctly and yours is beautiful. The centerstone claws are beautifully executed too!
What’s your take on symmetry in fancies, I see this one’s graded Good. Is that because of lack of availability of better stones or because the brilliance is anyways diminished and less important in an intense colour grade?

The symmetry grading is somewhat less important than how the diamond appears in real life. Symmetry is largely technical in nature and deals with issues such as accurate point to point contact of the facets, the shapes of the facets etc. As long as the diamond looks the way it should, (i.e. a pear cut should look like a pear cut instead of a misshapen triangular shape) the grade of Good or Very Good or Excellent doesn’t bother me.
